2019 Team

Meet the 2019 App Factory Team!

Dr. Zaid Altahat has over twenty years of experience as a Software Engineer, Architect, & Researcher working for tech giants such as GE Healthcare, Baxter, & Motorola.

Zaid joined UW–Parkside as an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science department and the director of the App Factory in 2016.

He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science/Software Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago in 2010.

His technical expertise spans a broad array of the software spectrum; including Telecommunication, Healthcare, Software Engineering tools, Business Intelligence, Mobile Apps, and Cloud based Web Applications.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Professor Timothy Knautz

Professor Timothy Knautz

Prof. Timothy Knautz has over fifteen years of experience as a Software Engineer for high tech companies such as GE Healthcare, Marquette Medical Systems, Merge Technologies and Fluid Dynamics, Intl.

Mr. Knautz also has over fifteen years’ experience teaching at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

Tim joined UW–Parkside as a Lecturer in the Computer Science department in 2001. He teaches the introductory computer, object oriented programming, client and server web programming and web security. Previous to that, Tim worked in industry as a software engineer.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Tim is the Founder and Associate Director of the App Factory and the Director of the Solutions for Economic Growth (SEG) Center. Tim’s technical and programming expertise concentrates mainly on Web and mobile software engineering and programming.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Armando

Meet Armando!

Armando is a Senior at UW-Parkside. He is working on a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.

Armando has been with the App Factory for almost a year. He is a team member for the Toffee and Unico projects.

His favorite programming languages are Python, Java, and Scheme, and he enjoys programming on the server side, or back-end programming.

Armando is planning on attending graduate school. His ideal career involves back-end software engineering, networked applications, and independent software projects.

 

Armando enjoys camping, hiking, playing D&D, reading fantasy and sci-fi, learning organic chemistry, playing video games, and spending time with family and friends.

He is also a class assistant for Computer Science 241, and a Peer Career Coach for UW-Parkside’s Student Support Services.

 

 

 

Colin Hoffman

Colin Hoffman

Meet Colin!

Colin is a Junior at UW-Parkside. He is working on his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.

He’s worked in the App Factory for the last year and a half on projects such as Higher Expectations and The Parkside App.

He enjoys programming with Java, Swift, and C#, and develops both the front and back ends of applications.

His ideal career is a position in Software Engineering and Software Development.

Colin’s hobbies are hockey, and working on cars and building dreams in the garage.

Ian Gilbert

Ian Gilbert

Meet Ian!

Ian is a Junior at UW-Parkside who is working on his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.

He’s been with the App Factory for a few months and he’s currently on the Wisys Student Loan App Team.

Ian’s favorite programming languages are Java, Kotlin, and he’s starting to like Python.

Ian prefers working in the server environment of things, or the back end or behind-the-scenes programmer.

His ideal career is to become an independent developer.

In his spare time, Ian enjoys writing music, drawing, theory crafting, and occasionally writing.

Ky Luong

Meet Ky!

Ky is in his nth year at UW-Parkside, and he’s working on his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.

He’s been with the App Factory for over two years, and he’s a member of several teams developing apps like the Parkside App, Student Loan, CKD Helper, RUSD, KAC, and CUSH.

His favorite programming languages are Java and Kotlin, and Ky is a Full-Stack developer who can create solutions using both the front and back end of his programming skills.

Marshall Ladd

Meet Marshall!

Marshall has been working on the App Factory team for over two years. He is and integral part of the various teams he’s on.

He is currently working on team projects like the Parkside App, Focus Racine, and Unico Reports. His favorite programming language is Kotlin.

He enjoys working on the server side of things, the back-end programming, the behind-the-scenes part of it all. His ideal career involves Android Development, and he is considering graduate school.

Ying Wang

Ying Wang

Meet Ying!

Ying is a graduate student at UW-Parkside. She is working on her Master’s in Computer Information Systems (MSCIS)

She deals with management in the App Factory, and she’s been here for a year. Ying’s ideal career will involve Project Management. In her spare time, she volunteers at Women & Children Horizon. She also enjoys watching old movies.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Meet Cristian!

Cristian

Cristian is a Junior at UW-Parkside. He is working on his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.

Cristian has been working in the App Factory for two years. He is currently working on team projects called HEX, On The Radar, and Focus Racine.

His favorite programming language is C++ and his ideal goal after graduation is Software Engineering.

Anthony Aiello

Anthony Aiello

Meet Tony!

Tony is a graduate student at UW-Parkside enrolled in the Master of Computer Information Systems (MS CIS) program with a concentration in Software Development. Tony graduated in May of 2018 with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a Minor in Web Development, and certificates in Cyber Security and Unix System Administration.

Tony started working for the App Factory in 2017. He’s been on team projects such as On The Radar, and the Transit App. He also develops and maintains a few websites such as the App Factory and the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges: Midwest Conference.

Tony enjoys full stack development, the command line and sudo. His favorite languages are PHP, C++, and Java, and bash shell.

His ideal career after graduation would be a Software Engineer, Developer, or working with Cyber Security.
